Our Roots

Where our story began.

Peter Billard and Rob Weld started SBW Employee Benefits in 2001. They became the exclusive Chambers Plan agents for St. John’s and grew into one of the leading brokers of group insurance in the province.

When both partners were eyeing retirement, they began looking for a new leader. Hive Group Benefits was created when Greg O’Brien acquired the NL division in 2021.

Greg upholds their reputation of honest advice paired with the best options in the market. With the purchase, he retained an immeasurable asset: group benefits expert Connie Tobin. Connie spent over 30 years in the group benefits world and had been an integral part of the team since the company began.

Greg lives in St. John’s with his wife, Kim, their two sons, Theo and Nolan, and their family dog, Stafford (named after Matthew Stafford when he was a Lion!).

Away from the office

Favourite things include spending time with his boys, the Lions, Habs, Raptors and Blue Jays, collecting records, cooking, hiking, and playing poker.
